Dragon Age 2 Confirmed for March 2011 Release

Way back in March this year, we reported that a placard was found inside the Dragon Age: Awakening retail box that contained the date of February 1st 2011 and a picture of a Dragon. Many people speculated that Dragon Age 2 was on it’s way and it looks like they were absolutely correct! GameInformer has just revealed their new cover and it looks like Hawke, the new protagonist of the game, is gracing it’s front pages.
A brief read of the official website reveals some interesting facts, with the most noticeable being that you will “rise to power from a destitute refugee to the revered champion of the land” which could make things interesting from a story perspective. Also, the game will take place over the span of a decade which will allow players to see how their choices will affect the world over a longer period of time. Finally, Bioware is promising an all new combat system that makes you “Think like a general and fight like a Spartan with dynamic new combat mechanics that put you right in the heart of battle whether you are a mage, rogue, or warrior,” which makes me think that the game may be more action focused like the console versions of Origins.
Digging deeper into the official forums, Chris Priestly, Community Manager, confirmed a few more things on various threads. Namely, the fact that you will not be able to choose your race, like you could in Origins, so your stuck playing as a human. Darn! On the brighter side, Hawke will still be customizable and you’ll have the option to be male or female as well. These facts have many people speculating that we will be seeing dialogue that is more similar in nature to Mass Effect but that’s really only a rumor at this point.
Dragon Age 2 will be releasing sometime in March 2011 for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 but Bioware is teasing that their debut trailer for the game will be available on August 17th. Also, don’t forget that the Game Informer issue that contains a 10 page preview of the game is releasing around July 20th. I can’t wait!
