E3 - Project Natal Renamed "Kinect" - Everything You Need To Know!
Well, E3 proper doesn’t start off until tomorrow, but that hasn’t stopped Microsoft from throwing a huge event featuring Project Natal… or should I say the “Kinect”. Yep, that’s right, we finally have a real name for the device, although it’s gonna take some time to get used to. Anyways, Cirque de Soleil transformed an entire area of the conference into “an interactive Kinect experience” which had almost everyone wearing Poncho’s, along with giving us a ton of information on the device.
Get the details on Ponchos and Microsoft’s announcements after the break!
Now, before we get on to the actual news you can see some gaming “celebrities” (Cliffy B and Itagaki) wearing Ponchos at the event here and here.
Since I’ve proven that ponchos are pretty awesome, let’s get straight into the news! As I mentioned earlier, Microsoft has renamed Project Natal to the Kinect. Can’t say I exactly love the name but hopefully everyone will get used to it. Hopefully.
(Ricardo’s note: I know some people are a little iffy on not just the new name change but the actual spelling of it as well. Well, if you think about it, they’re taking a page right out of the Nintendo play book - naming a product that has a unique name so when people Google it online they’ll get the results they need. I mean, just imagine the chaos it’d be to try to find the Nintendo We or the Xbox Connect.)
Anyways, we’ve also gotten a little bit of information on the games releasing alongside Nat… I mean Kinect, probably the most interesting of bunch is a new Star Wars title which will reportedly have you battling Darth Vader with a lightsaber custom created for each individual person by Kinect (Updating as it becomes available!). Alongside that, we’ve discovered the existence of two racers, a raft racing game, a mine cart style game, a fitness game (think Wii Fit), a collection of sports games (I’m starting to see a pattern here) and use of motion to navigate the Dashboard, as well as your game and movie selections.
It all seems rather vague and that’s because of Cirque de Soleil’s custom performance, which I am informed, was pretty crazy from Elephants walking around in the crowd to optical illusions being used very often. As the event drew to a close, Microsoft promised lots of details at their official presser tommorow morning at 10 PM PST where they will, undoubtedly, drop a couple bombs.
