Gabe Newell: "Wii U fits Valve and its future plans "
Strike another victory for Nintendo and its growing number of third-party developers who have high hopes for the Wii successor. Just a few days after hearing Take Two’s confidence in the direction Nintendo is taking with their next system, Valve and its co-founder Gabe Newell seem to be on that same wave length.
Speaking with Joystiq at the Games for Change festival, Newell let the cat out of the bag on his feelings about what’s coming from the Big N:
“Wii U seems to be a lot more powerful than the previous generation […] It sort of fits better into the scalability in terms of graphics performance and CPU performance, so I think it’ll be a lot easier for us to fit it into our scalability model.”
“We’ve always loved Nintendo […] Now it’s a lot easier to look at Wii U and have it fit within that framework.”
What that pray tells is possibly a collaboration of tech and new ideas within this new construct Nintendo is offering studios. New IP’s, or at least multi-platform titles we never thought we’d see on a Nintendo console making their way onto the Wii U.
Not to mention, Steam could potentially have a big impact on the system, seeing as Nintendo’s CEO and President, Satoru Iwata, wants to keep the hardware’s online features open for third-party players to build as they see fit.
