HTC responds to HD7 death grip report, blames 'inevitable' antenna shortcomings
And death grip strikes yet another phone, this time its HTC’s HD7. We’d seen complaints by owners pop-up throughout the week, however what was originally thought to be a series of isolated incidents — hence the lack of coverage around the net — has prompted an official statement from the company, yep looks like we could have another antenna gate on our hands.
As you’ll recall, death grip issues have existed since the creation of the modern cell phone, however earlier this year Apple was heavily criticised when the issue plagued their much loved iPhone 4 — which, the company later went on to point out that antenna issues only exist in phones due to their positioning, usability and the overall design of said phone. Below you’ll find HTC’s official statement as sent to Computer Weekly:
“Quality in industrial design is of key importance to HTC. To ensure the best possible signal strength, antennas are placed in the area least likely to be covered by a person’s face or hands while the phone is in use. However, it is inevitable that a phone’s signal strength will weaken a little when covered in its entirety by a user’s palm or fingers. We test all of our phones extensively and are confident that under normal circumstances reception strength and performance will be more than sufficient for the operation of the phone when network coverage is also adequate” - HTC
