MegaMan's creator offered to finish up Legends 3, Capcom said 'no, thanks'
Capcom cited a number of reasons for not moving forward with the fan favorite MegaMan Legends 3 project, but apparently one of them wasn’t resources or personel. In fact, Keiji Inafune, the creator of MegaMan, despite leaving Capcom as a whole, actually offered his services into bringing the game to fruition. What was the studio’s response? “No, thank you”.
The 100,000 Strong for MegaMan Legends 3 — (remember them?) — recently uncovered some interesting details from an interview conducted by 4gamer.com with Keiji Inafune, and what the terms of his departure from Capcom actually entailed:
“So, I told them that I was going to found my own independent company and leave Capcom. However, I stated that I was ready to make a contract with them so that I could keep working on those projects that I started. I couldn’t start making contracts with other publishers for sure if Capcom agreed to the proposition, but I wanted to see those projects that I started to completion. But it couldn’t be done. They answered, ‘We have no need to do that.’” — Keiji Inafune
Capcom has done a number of things right, being one of the last few developers who still get what gamer’s want. Problem with that is that it doesn’t always apply is all fields of their expertise — one of them being the MegaMan franchise.
