Microsoft Courier Details - Features, Pictures, and Videos
We have been waiting for this, and now it's closer than ever - and the interwebs have gobbled up some wicked pictures and video, along with some more info. First off the Courier, which we have learned is supposed to function as a "digital journal," and it's designed to be seriously portable (less then 1 inch thick) and isn't much bigger than a 5x7 photo when closed.
It's definitely a lot smaller than we expected and seems that having a fold-out tablet could maybe make sense at this size. And apparently the Courier is built on Nvidia Tegra 2 graphics technology, and runs on the same OS as the Zune HD, and Windows Mobile 7 Series. Sounds good, but what makes the courier so unique?
It's supposed to be used mostly with a pen and centered around drawing and writing, which I'm personally not yet sold on. It appears to have really good handwriting recognition so it should not seem like a chore, but really. A stylus?
There is also word that there will be a built-in camera and a headphone jack for media playback, which should not come as a shock. On the more interesting side, it looks as if the Courier could be the flagship device for Microsoft entering the eBook world, and I think this could be the perfect device to read eBooks on, because it looks like a book. Duh!
There is a release date - but it's pretty loose and up in the air. It sounds like it could be released near "Q3 / Q4", but no-one has any idea how much it's going to cost, or where it's going to be available. There is also no word about 3G or dataplans with carriers, but all this info is sure to put a spike of excitement back in the public eye looking at Microsoft for a while.
