New Music Monday: The Cataracs
The Cataracs, I thought they were black - Most people instantly think these Berkley born boys are black. So it was very fitting that their latest mixtape The Cataracs: I thought they were black presented by DJ Greg Street. The group consist of Campa and Cyrano who are both Berkley born an raised, and the Cataracs are constantly evolving and is climbing to the top soon.
The Cataracs have a mix of bay area hip-hop, techno, and pop feel to their music, and though the group hasn’t become very main stream, their fans are very loyal. They have produced a few albums and have been working with other bay area artist such as The Pack. The Cataracs have shot a few music videos for songs like Julia and Club Love, which you can find on iTunes, and their biggest hit currently is Club Love and Club Love Remix Ft. E-40. Julia was awarded best original video at the BET awards a few years ago. The video was shot by Bay Area Director Colin Tilley, who now shoots videos for artist like Lil Wanye and Jay-Z.
The Cataracs latest mixtape, The Cataracs: I thought they were black presented by DJ Greg Street, has been a huge hit around and outside the Bay Area, and what is interesting is that the album is mixed so that each song flows into each other very nicely. The free mixtape includes songs like Like A and Club Love Remix.

The entire album is very upbeat and is filled with dance tracks. There are no sad love songs in the entire mixtape, and every song has a very well created beat with much of what makes Bay Area music, the bass and the entire mixtape is free and is worth a listen. The group is on the rise and making MTV’s video playlist which is a very big accomplishment.
