Nintendo 3DS WILL be Region Locked
Unlike most of its handheld predecessors of the past, Nintendo’s upcoming 3DS will be region locked. While the DSi and DSiXL have been tied down to country regions, the 3DS will be the next big step in the handheld market and so publishers and developers are looking for a surefire way to ensure professional relations run smoothly. Sometimes it’s not all always about the gamers, though this definitely will p.o. a number of gamers who were looking to import Japanese games that would otherwise never make it stateside — games like Love Plus.
According to an email posted on NeoGAF by user farnham, the 3D capable DS will not be region free as many people were hoping and praying for. But c’mon, like I just said above, the DSi and DSiXL had already been locked down, so by power of deduction it was practically guaranteed that Nintendo wasn’t going to keep the ways of free trading between continents open without first allowing local publishers to get a slice of the pie. I mean afterall, this is business first and foremost.
