Nintendo giving Excitebike away for free with May 3DS eShop update

For 3DS owners, the launch of Nintendo’s latest handheld was full of wonder and magic but lacked sufficient amount of quality games to keep that feeling going. Nintendo hopes to cheer early adopters up with the eShop update which will bring the virtual console hosting Gameboy and Gameboy Color games to the platform. And in addition, Satoru Iwata, the company’s CEO, wants to treat everyone right out of the gate.

In an investor briefing that went down a few days ago, a few things were mention as to what Nintendo plans to do to make sure the 3DS chugs full steam ahead as the dominant player in the handheld space:

“The important issue is the enhancement of network services.
Currently, the main update is scheduled for late May, has been enhanced network services, “Nintendo e-shop” functions and “Internet browser” feature is added. “Nintendo e-shop” and be able to use, since you can expand the foundation for a variety of network services, new services, “Communications Since when,” you can also suggest that you continue to use .

However, you are once, so you’ll need to update itself by connecting to the network, plans to expand activities that promote your back pressed at that time. Specifically, for a limited period of time from the beginning to refresh the body, “3D Classics” as prepared for delivery] [free Excitebike, it can be widely announced, many people, to update itself you to, “Nintendo e-shop,” I believe you did want to make use.

In addition, the Virtual Console, start the Game Boy and Game Boy Color, in stages, will continue to pursue the possibility of realizing a virtual console on other platforms.”

There’s no mention as to whether if this Excitebike offer is open only to those in Japan or if it will be extended to the whole globe. My guess is the latter, but hey, you never know. We’ll keep you posted.
