Nintendo issues fix for Zelda Skyward Sword game breaking glitch

So last night I personally just finished the Song of Hero quest, which roughly is at the very last leg of your journey to complete the main adventure, and I came out of it unscathed. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case for what could be hundreds of fellow Skywardians (?) who’ve been plagued by a stupid game-breaking glitch. Well, unlike the olden days in which you would have to start all over again, Nintendo will be releasing a specific channel on the Wii to help restore game saves.

Nintendo acknowledges the issue and explains how and why the glitch occurs, along with information on an upcoming fix for those suffering from it:

Important information regarding the Song of the Hero quest

Thank you for choosing Nintendo’s products, we hope you have enjoyed them.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword™ was released for the Wii™ console on November 20, 2011. It has since come to our attention that if a specific sequence of actions are performed when completing the Song of the Hero quest, further progress in the game can’t be made. This prevents the player from being able to complete the game.

The following provides information on how to prevent this from occurring, and how to resolve the situation if it has occurred. We are deeply sorry for any inconvenience caused by this issue.

How to prevent this situation from occurring:
To complete the Song of the Hero quest, the player must visit three different locations to collect three dragon songs. To prevent the situation where the game can no longer be completed from happening:

Complete the quests in Faron Woods or Eldin Volcano first.
Do not go to the Lanayru Desert first.

If the Thunder Dragon’s Song from the Lanayru Desert has already been collected first, do not talk to a Goron named Golo until the other songs have been collected. (Golo is found at the entrance to Lanayru Mine.)

What prevents the game from being completed?
In the quest for the Song of the Hero, if the Thunder Dragon Song in the Lanayru Desert is collected first and Golo the Goron is spoken to before the other songs are collected, the cut scenes that start the sequences to get the songs in the other areas won’t occur. This prevents being able to make any further progress in the game.

What to do if you are experiencing this situation:
If you are experiencing this situation, we are able to repair your saved data. For information on how to send your save data to Nintendo, please call 1-800-255-3700.

We are also planning on releasing a program that will repair save data for those who have their Wii connected to the Internet. We are currently working on preparations for the release of this program. Information on how to download and use it will be made available through support.nintendo.com once the program is ready for release.

The program briefly mentioned at the end of that note has been fleshed out by Gamasutra, and is coming in the form of a Wii Channel called The Legend of Zelda Data Restoration Channel. The channel went live in Japan today, but it’s expected to being coming soon for the rest of the world.

Also, for anyone who didn’t get the top information, here’s a video explanation of how to avoid the glitch by KnightWing01:
