Nintendo's U.S. Server Attacked by Hackers
In a recent article posted on the Wall Street Journal, Nintendo reported that a server affiliated with its U.S. unit’s website had been hacked. Unlike the recent bout of attacks that have plagued Sony’s PlayStation Network, Nintendo remains adamant that sensitive data was not obtained during the breach.

Taking claim over the recent attack on Nintendo’s United States server was hacking group Lulzsec. As some readers may be aware, Lulzsec claimed it was responsible for breaking into several of Sony’s websites and subsequently claiming it had retrieved personal data stolen in the attack. This time around, Lulzsec has claimed that it stole Nintendo’s “server configuration file,” for programming purposes.
Nintendo spokesman Ken Toyoda acknowledged that there was a breach in the company’s U.S. server, however he also claimed “we are always working to make sure our systems are secure.”
Shortly after Nintendo’s response on the matter, Lulzsec took to twitter claiming that it had no intention of targeting Nintendo. Instead, the group claimed “we sincerely hope Nintendo plugs the gap.”
As the gaming conference E3 kicks off today, any persons interested in following Nintendo’s press conference can tune in on Tuesday the 7th of June at 9:00am PDT — much like the Sony press conference, Nintendo’s can be viewed online at GameTrailers.com.
