PS Vita launches Feb. 22, 2012 in North America, Europe, and pretty much everywhere else
Nearly a year after Nintendo’s 3DS launch, Sony is now ready to release their PSP successor, known as the PS Vita. We’ve seen it demo’d, we’ve got a number of games that’ll be hitting the portable, as well as price tags and the different models available — now we just need to when it’s going to hit shelves. Well, today SCEA’s Jack Tretton announced the fateful day; February 22nd of the Mayan calendar year 2012.
There’s quite a lot to look forward to in this next generation of handhelds, as we no longer are held back by the limitations of bits and bites that made us always compare each pocket device to a previous home console; i.e. the DS looks like the N64, PSP was like PS1 graphics. Nowadays Sony is offering a portable gaming player that pretty much matches what you get in the living room, only in a smaller form factor — think of it as a PS3 on the go.
