PS3 firmware 3.61 breaking L.A. Noire for some players
Potential game of the year winner, L.A. Noire, developed by reknowned games studio, Rockstar, has hit a bit of a snag after its release this week. According to some complaints made by PS3 owners, the game causes players to suffer odd “start and stop” activity, as well as random shut offs on their systems. However, fingers are being pointed to not the game itself, but rather the latest 3.61 firmware update that made PSN users change their passwords.
UPDATE 11:21AM : Apparently, the issue isn’t only affecting PS3’s but also 360’s as well. Rockstar has given the following information that might resolve the problem:
- Delete L.A. Noire Game Data (not save data) from the PS3 Game Data Utility. On Xbox 360, clear the cache (My Xbox, System Settings, Device Options, Clear System Cache).
- Create a temporary PS3 profile to ensure new save files are created. On Xbox 360, create a Silver Xbox Live Gamertag.
- Launch L.A. Noire and try again. Try playing while signed out of PSN.
- Check L.A. Noire disc for scratches, dust, dirt or other damage. Clean if necessary.
According to a deleted support page on Rockstar’s website, PS3 players of the game L.A. Noire have been at the mercy of erratic errors, some unable to even get the game to consistently play.
This is what the post on their site said previous to it being taken down, likely at the hand of Sony:
“We have received some reports of PS3s overheating while playing L.A. Noire or beeping three times before shutting down/turning themselves off, mostly on older 60GB and 80GB fat models. Primary reports seem to be that updating to firmware 3.61 will cause PlayStations to overheat. There have been various reports of this on a few different games now, all reporting their PS3s turning off or “Red Lighting” after having installed 3.61.”
We haven’t had any issues on our end, but what about you? At the moment there’s no word from Sony or Rockstar on if this is a wide scaled issue, limited to older systems or just a fluke. Whatever the case, we’d like to hear an official statement rather than having legitmate customer support pages being taken down.
