Rurouni Kenshin green lit to receive new anime
On the eve of the Blu-Ray release dates for the Samurai X OVA and Motion Picture films being announced, Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine has revealed that Rurouni Kenshin has been approved for a new anime. There’s no word yet on if it’ll be an OVA or a 13-26 episode series, but it pleases me to tell you that we’re going to be treated to yet another animated tale in the storied series.
Anyone who claims to be a fan of anime is no doubt familiar with the Kenshin series, either in its manga or anime form. Its television series spanned a good 95 episodes before ending, which thereafter it was sandwiched story-wise between two OVA releases that told the origins and the eventuality of the Hitokiri Batousai (Man-Slayer). Kenshin Himura.
This shouldn’t come to anyone’s surprise since in the past couple years it seems that the anime industry has been looking to its roots to keep itself afloat — with Hellsing, Full Metal Alchemist, Dragonball Z, and Trigun all receiving either new retellings, new OVA’s, or even fully vamped rebroadcasts of their original shows to keep audiences glued to their seats.
