Samsung's Galaxy Tab Officially Announced
The latest contender to Apple’s IPad was announced today, the Samsung Galaxy Tab. We finally have full specs, courtesy of Engdaget but really, we don’t know much else about the product. But some information is glaringly missing. Like for instance, which carrier is this going to be on? Or my favorite, about how much is this going to cost me so I can see how much top ramen I will be eating to pay for it? As for a release date, Samsung states, “The Samsung GALAXY Tab will be launched in Europe in mid September, and in other markets including Korea, the US and Asia in coming months.” There’s another Samsung Event happening on September 16th according to the Android Police, so maybe more information will follow there.

Now, what I did see of the device was the environment looks very familiar since I’m currently using the Epic 4G. The Galaxy Tab is, of course, running TouchWiz 3.0 with a few custom modifications to fit the form factor. I’m really excited to try Swype on the larger device. Some of the video looks very cool, especially using it for emails and text messages. I’m still not sold on the calling feature without a head piece, especially for video calling. I’ve noticed that if you try video calling outside, the volume does get drowned out. For now, check out some hands-on videos and the official ad for the Samsung Galaxy Tab.
