See ya' later Microsoft Kin, you are outta here
Well, that’s the end of Microsoft’s little feature phone experiment. Can’t say we blame ‘em for pulling the plug — after all, both Kins weren’t exactly on the hot-handset-selling-list. As traditionally believed Microsoft’s chosen to focus on their saving grace (Windows Phone 7), and inturn it just so happens that the Kin project will be incorporated into that. Now don’t get us wrong, we may have disliked the Kin with a passion, but it did have its highs — and we can only hope that nifty cloud syncing technology (as acquired in the Danger acquisition) makes its way over to Windows Phone 7.
Nevertheless we digress. Currently Microsoft’s stated that it intends to keep both Kin One and Kin Two devices on Verizon (at least for the meantime). However, we’re saddened to report (or maybe we’re happy?) that the company’s chosen to pull both devices from Vodafone’s road-map. In other words, you folks in Europe won’t be able to get one.
Microsoft’s official statement:
“We have made the decision to focus exclusively on Windows Phone 7 and we will not ship KIN in Europe this fall as planned. Additionally, we are integrating our KIN team with the Windows Phone 7 team, incorporating valuable ideas and technologies from KIN into future Windows Phone releases. We will continue to work with Verizon in the U.S. to sell current KIN phones.”
