t3ch Review: Isis Dei Netbook Sleeves

Product: Isis Dei Netbook 7” - 9”, 10” - 12” Sleeves

What is says it does: A notebook sleeve serves one purpose: keep your notebook, or in this case, your netbook safe from scratches and the outside world.

My experience: I have myself a Dell Mini 9 which incidentally has a white backing. In other words, nicks and scratches show up pretty easily if I’m not careful with it. I’ve had this particular netbook for a year now and I’ve taken well care of it, and I’ve had the Isis Dei netbook sleeves for a good 2 weeks or so. After nestling my mini computing pal in the 7 - 9” sleeve I threw it into my messenger bag and took them both out on the town - more like went to the park, went to other people’s houses, and so on to give it some track experience.

For it being a simple sleeve there’s not much that could go wrong. As long as it protects the netbook from the outside elements then we’re good. And in that department it’s perfect - Nothing’s going to get through the 5mm neoprene when you’re lugging it around or when it’s stowed away inside a backpack or other carrying utility. And with the addition of a outer “lip” on the interior, you can slip your netbook underneath it and not worry about your pc grinding up against the zipper. Nice design choice there. Also, with that same lip you can use the netbook on your lap, or table while it’s still in the sleeve, however, I wouldn’t recommend it due to heating issues.

My only real big gripe is the lack of grip on the outside, but I’m sure that has to do with aesthetics. As I mentioned before it’s made out of memory foam, so there’s not a lot of friction going on on the exterior. When I had it in my bag in a pocket that was slightly bigger than the sleeve itself there was a bit of movement due to the lack of friction between the sleeve and the bag’s material. And one last thing; the 7” - 9”, which is Isis Dei’s smallest sleeves, are limited in their designs. From what I could find on their site, out of the entire selection of 17 sleeves only 3 come in that specific size. I would’ve loved to see more personalization go into this specific sized sleeve.

Pro’s: smooth look, great shield from outside forces, has interior lip to protect from zipper

Con’s: only 3 choices in designs on the 7” - 9” sleeve, a bit slippery on the outside - no grip

How much: $12.99 - $20

Where to buy: IsisDei, Amazon, NewEgg
