Warner Bros. concerned over reaction to Bane's voice in Dark Knight Rises
We’ve been posting leaks, trailers, and all that good stuff, so by now you’ve more than likely heard the infamous muffled voice of Tom Hardy’s Bane. It suits the character for sure, but is it too much? Some members of the media who were given a sneak peek at the 6-min. prologue complained that Bane sounded a little too “unintelligiable”. And movie-goers also raised their concerns to Twitter when watching both the prologue and trailer. The studio is on Chris Nolan’s back about this but he seems to want to go with what they’ve got, as if it’s part of his master plan.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nolan doesn’t intend to “fix” Bane’s voice:
Sources also say some at Warners would like Nolan to change the sound mix, but the filmmaker, whose autonomy is well-earned (his Inception earned the studio more than $800 million and eight Oscar nominations), has informed executives that he plans only to alter the sound slightly, not to rework it completely.
“Chris wants the audience to catch up and participate rather than push everything at them. He doesn’t dumb things down,” says one high-level exec, declining to be named. “You’ve got to pedal faster to keep up.”
Here’s my suggestion, just watch and play along with the movie in theaters, and then when the DVD and Blu-Ray comes out just flip on the subtitles. But we can picture it now; the growled voices of both Batman and Bane when they go toe to toe in the final showdown.
