Zelda producer excited about Wii U's possibilities for the series

It’s been nearly two months since E3 but buzz about the Wii U has yet to disappate. Well, if Nintendo keeps dragging out this long and painful death of the Wii then more and more talk of Wii U will no doubt be happening. In fact in the most recent edition of Nintendo Power, long time Zelda producer and creative force, Eiji Aonuma, shares his thoughts on the many concepts and possibilties the Wii U could have in store for a property such as The Legend of Zelda.

“I really think [having two screens is] one of the most exciting features of the system. Unlike the Nintendo DS, there’s distance between the television and you and your other screen. That really allows for some different interactions, some of which you saw [at E3]. For example, imagine having the contents of Link’s satchel available to you on the screen of your controller, and using elements of the pouch to interact with gameplay on the television.

With The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, we had the Nunchuck and Wii Remote sort of stand in for the sword and shield that Link carries. But in a game for the Wii U, I can definitely see something like the controller itself becoming the different items that Link is using, allowing you to interact with the game world and with the game items in a very different way.”

We’re still awaiting the release of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, due for release on Nov. 21st later this year, and here we are talking about “Wii U Zelda”. While the next hardware’s abilities are profound and open to much creativity let’s not try to focus too hard on it… at least until we get the last worthwhile title the Wii has to offer… since it looks like Nintendo has all but given up on the platform, what with Operation Rainfall being a total waste of time
