Google Phone - Nexus One - Specs, Features and details

White noise, confusion and Dogfooding has been happening on the internet for the past while about a smartphone called "Nexus One", or as we know it, the Google Phone. First off, most of us are thinking "wait, Google is and never will be a hardware company, and isn't every phone running Android considered to be a "Google Phone"? what makes this device different?". It only gets more foggy from here. It is apparently the brainchild of Google and HTC, which we think is the perfect match, but what exactly does this phone offer in terms of features, specs and originality? First we will start off with some background info of the Nexus One.

The "top secret" phone was given to most Google employees at an all-hands meeting on Friday, December 10th. Soon after, everyone found out about the Google phone when a number of Googlers tweeted about the phone, which was expected. Picture Gallery and Specs after the break...

Quick facts about the device

Via Engadget

The phone doesn't really have an official name. Right now we call it the Google Phone. The EXIF data attached to the pictures taken on the device identify it as the "Nexus One".

The hardware itself appears to be the HTC Dragon / Passion which may have a Snapdragon proccessor with a 3.7-inch AMOLED display, 5 megapixel camera, and no physical keyboard.

There have been rumors that this phone runs a "real" or different version of Android. That is not true, it appears to run a version of Android that looks nearly identical to the version currently found on the Droid (2.0.1).

There are rumors that if sold, the device will be available unlocked and able to function on both AT&T and T-Mobile 3G bands.

Specs and Features

It runs on a Snapdragon chip, has a super high-resolution, 3.7" AMOLED touchscreen, is thinner than the iPhone, has no keyboard, and two mics. You may be asking 'what the hell is the mic on the back about'? The mic on the back of the phone helps eliminate background noise, which can prove useful. It also has an abusively large camera for a phone. It will also have Voice to Text.

Conclusion

This device is shaping up to be another "going to beat the iPhone" phone, the thing is, will it eat away at HTC's own market? As we have seen with the Droid, made by Motorola, they have destroyed there own products. I mean if you are going to by any Motorola smartphone it's going to be the Droid. The marketing was top notch, the device is badass, and it runs Android which bleeds into a lot of other Smartphones. HTC also makes good devices, and they make lots of them, but Apple seems to be making a better device - only one device. Maybe better is the enemy of good.

Update: Now blessed by the FCC

A new device called "NEXUSONE" has been blessed by the FCC. For those of you who are not familiar with this device, it is in fact the speculated "Google Phone" which the internet has been talking about for the past while. This new device has just slipped through the FCC as model number PB99100 built by HTC. The filing also confirms a few more details including microSD expansion, 802.11b/g WiFi, and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. But the real news comes from looking at the radios: quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE with UMTS/HSUPA.
