BREAKING: Disney is buying Marvel for 4 Billion dollars

Disney has announced it will acquire Marvel Entertainment, Inc. in a stock and cash transaction worth 4 billion dollars.

Superhero and comic fan boys are punching their walls right now. Why marvel, Why did you have to give yourself away to a company who makes Hanna Montana!!

Disney will pay Marvel shareholders a $30 per share, plus approximately 0.745 Disney shares for each Marvel share they own, based on the closing price of Disney on August 28, 2009.

What makes this deal huge, as far as it goes, is the fact that under the terms of the deal, Disney will take ownership of not only Marvel, but also Iron man, Hulk, Spiderman and over 5,000 more Marvel characters. Disney will now obtain alot of money from all the marvel movies, comics, and merch.

This is a sad day for us, but what about the kids? This is a glorious day for 8 year olds everywhere who want to see "Spiderman" not "Spiderman-with-mushy-storyline-and-tony-mclooser" but a true spiderman action comic, for kids! That's who it was made for, and that's who it will be made for.

Disney is the perfect home for Marvel’s fantastic library of characters given its proven ability to expand content creation and licensing businesses.

Ike Perlmutter, Marvel’s Chief Executive Officer

This transaction combines Marvel’s strong global brand and world-renowned library of characters including Iron Man, Spider-Man, X-Men, Captain America, Fantastic Four and Thor with Disney’s creative skills, unparalleled global portfolio of entertainment properties, and a business structure that maximizes the value of creative properties across multiple platforms and territories

Robert A. Iger, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company
