3DS 'Slidepad' will retail for around $20 bucks, out in Japan Dec. 10th
At Nintendo’s Pre-TGS event, which just happened to be livestreamed across the inter-webs, the company lifted the veil off the uncertain future of their 3D handheld machine, the 3DS. Trailers and announcements led the way but the ‘Slidepad’ cradle that attaches itself to the system and adds a second circlepad was mysteriously absent. Well, today we’ve got official news on pricing and release.
Right out of the gate, Nintendo is setting the price at 1,500¥ ($20 USD) and will be released in Japan starting December 10th, right in time for the launch of Monter Huntry 3G on that same day.
Aside from Monster Hunter, so far the following upcoming titles will be compatible with the new accessory: Dynasty Warriors VS, Resident Evil: Revelations, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, Ace Combat 3D: Cross Rumble, and Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream, Drop, Distance.
Also worth mentioning is that the Slidepad expansion is going to require its own power source, which Nintendo has decided will be a single AAA battery. Strange indeed, though it’s better than drawing energy away from the already horrendous battery life on the system, right? But I thought we were way past the days of disposable energy sources in the gaming industry.
Oh well, mother earth can just blame Nintendo for its pollution.
