Apple pulls VLC Media Player from iTunes app store

Apple’s won this round: Earlier today, the Cupertino giant pulled VLC Media Player from their iTunes app store. Sure, the open-source VideoLAN developer was currently in the process of suing Apple due to differing end user agreements — more specifically VLC’s General Public License and Apple’s AppStore Terms and Agreements — but, hey it’s a striking blow for media playback on all supported iOS devices. Current reports suggest that an Apple attorney contacted the company to inform them of VLC’s removal — after all, pulling an app is far easier than going to court over a frivolous matter.

If you’re one of the lucky people who managed to download the app before it was pulled from iTunes you’ll be fine, just don’t expect any updates in future months. With that said, Engadget commenters have stated that said application can be found via a jailbroken iPad / iPhone / iPod Touch through Installous.
