Here's a DIY that's worth its salt. Modder, AlexBates, who co-founded Insanely Wind, a blog dedicated to the MSI Wind, recently posted pictures of his latest creation: An MSI Wind tablet converted into a working iPad. Obviously, it doesn't have access to Apple's app store, but at very affordable $350 I think it's safe to say you won't mind when you're working with full applications on OS X.
Alex had this say about his project:
What I think people will be most interested in is the fact that you can build an iPad with 10 times the storage, twice the speed, external video (VGA), webcam, USB ports, and built-in multi card reader, all for $350. Isn't that EXACTLY what hundreds of thousands of people have been wishing for since the first day the iPad was announced?
Of course this isn't for everyone, but for every tech guy out there who would like a working "wifi" iPad with more functionality and at over little half the price, this DIY just might be worth it. Alex said that he's looking into making a video on how he created the ultimate Frankenstein monster.
