Shigeru Miyamoto says he's preparing Nintendo with retirement talk

Despite the exclusive interview with Wired, in which Nintendo’s godfather, Shigeru Miaymoto — who created such franchises like Super Mario Bros. and — mentioned he was thinking of taking a smaller role at legendary gaming firm, and would “retire” from his current position, it now appears that this won’t be the case at all. And while Shiggy seemed to know that Nintendo wouldn’t allow it, he seems to enjoy scaring the exec’s at the Big N. — More after the break!

Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto retiring from current position, would like to focus on small projects

Jonny Ive at Apple was said by Steve Jobs to answer to no one but him. As a designer, his word say was the final say. But when it comes to Nintendo, Shigeru Miyamoto is their very own Ive — being responsible for one of, if the THE most recognizable video game character of all time, Mario. Not only that, but Miyamoto-san was also instrumental in the conception of Donkey Kong and The Legend of Zelda franchises, among many others. But it would seem that the father of Nintendo has decided to stay out of the lime light, and go back to helping on smaller games rather than the bigger titles, like Mario Galaxy and such. Though he worded it differently, using the word “retire”. — More after the break!

3DS gets updated today, comes packed with 3D video shooting and more

While everyone’s been clamoring and complaining over the new Xbox dashboard update, Nintendo’s been quietly updating their new handheld. Loaded with a ton of new features, the 3DS is now ready for the holidays, giving kids and adults a whole new way to create modern, Gameboy Camera-like experiences with the use of 3D video shooting capabilities and the additional stop-motion mode. — More after the break!

Xenoblade finally making its way to North America, exclusively at GameStop

Well, lookie here! It would appear that after much griping from JRPG fans, Nintendo has actually caved in and will be releasing one of the titles from Operation Rainfall’s demands list in North America after all. Xenoblade Chronicles, which up until a few months ago was a Japanese exlusive (which then branched out with localized versions in Europe), is finally getting ported over to the states and its north and southern neighbors as well. And when we say ported over, we mean “ported over” — as in we’re getting the British voice track. Not only that, but you’re only going to be able to buy the store at one place. Can you guess where? — More after the break!

Major firmware update for 3DS due out by December 8th

We heard talk about an incoming update for the 3DS that was going to enhance many of the onboard capabilities for the 3D, but we never posted any details on it since we weren’t sure when it was going to launch. Well, strike that — Nintendo originally hoped to see it out to the masses by the end of November but now it seems that’s been delayed. But don’t fret, you’ll see it out by Dec. 8th. So what do you get with this ‘major’ update? Well, the ability to take 3D video, for starters. — More after the break!

Watch Zelda Skyward Sword's first 70 minutes of gameplay -- (Video)

In gaming generations past, Nintendo’s flagship titles each had a masterpiece all their own; Super Metroid, Super Mario World, and Ocarina of Time. And within the past decade or so, these heavyweights have made a resurgance by redefining themselves with evolving gameplay elements and visuals that make you experience their nostalgic world’s in a whole new way; games like Metroid Prime, Mario Galaxy, and now, in only a few days, Zelda: Skyward Sword.

PETA is after Nintendo and Mario's Raccoon Suit wearing habits in 3D Land... seriously

Believe it or not, but PETA (the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) — who apparently have nothing else better to do — are going after one particular Italian plumber because he commandeers the skins of Tanuki’s and uses them to hover around his world that’s been overrun by turtles, Goomba-things, and bullets with faces on them. This is more than enough of a reason for PETA to get in Nintendo’s grill about the inclusion of the ol’ raccoon suit from the original Super Mario Bros. 3 into the newly released Super Mario 3D Land on the 3DS. — More after the break!
