Engadget gets hands on with Samsung Sliding PC 7 Series
Now, netbook tablet convertibles aren’t something new, in fact they’ve been around for quite some time now; however, as you’d expect most of them were just plane buggy and downright unusable. “But, what about a sliding netbook tablet convertible” you say? Well, the fine folks over at Engadget, got some one on one time with Samsung’s latest offering… the Samsung Sliding PC 7 series.
Currently — the PC 7 is pre-production so some of this stuff may change later on — but for now it comes equipped with a 10.1-inch display at a resolution of 1366 x 768, a 1.5GHz Oak Trail processor, a MicroSD slot, a 3G card insert, as well as a mini-HDMI port. Software wise, Sammy’s latest tablet slider hybrid comes with Windows 7 as well as Samsung’s Touch Launcher (Samsung’s own touchscreen layer for Windows 7), which Engadget editor Joanna Stern, stated as being “one of the nicer looking Windows 7 layers they’ve seen.” She also goes onto mention that in tablet mode this plucky slider is albeit slightly heavy for one handed use, but with that said it’s far better than Dell’s current netbook tablet ware. Besides the nicely done netbook internals, Samsung’s PC 7 supports up to 16 points of contact via its touchscreen display.
It’s scheduled to ship in or around May for around about $699, until then the future of Sammy’s PC 7 is well, in the hands of Samsung.
