Guy gets stabbed over auto-correction mistake in text message
When it comes to mistakes in text messages, there’s that “oh sh*t!” moment when you realize that you’ve made a horrible mistake. Your phone auto-corrected a word to change (what was supposed to be) a timely message you you boss into an insult towards his privates. You usually manage to patch things up before everything hits the fan — but for one un-luckey chap in England, his auto-corrected text message killed him.
Salford in northern England is home to Neil Brook, who was convicted of manslaughter after he “lost it”, and killed his friend over a series of text messages which would have made the front page of “Damn you auto correct” — but no harm or insult was intentional.
The stabber told police he had sent a (joking) message to his friend, Josef Witkowski, containing the word “mutter,” a local term for someone who is rude and insulting (a.k.a. douchebag). This is where the auto-correcting mishap comes to play — the message was auto-corrected to say “What are you on about nutter?” an English term for “deranged.”
Josef was enraged, and set out on a path of destruction towards Neil’s apartment with a knife. Once he got there, we assume they began to fight (most likely for their life) and it ended up that Neil stabbed Josef with the knife (even though Josef was planning to do that anyways) and ended up inflicting 104 injuries (could be bumps and bruises as well) on Josef.
Who is at fault here?
Now you may have come to the conclusion that Neil is obviously the bad-guy because he was the one who killed Josef, but Josef was the dude who started the ordeal in the first place… over a text message!
There aren’t a lot of details as to what happened once Josef arrived at Neil’s house with the knife, but we guess there was a major life or death struggle, otherwise Neil would be dead — Do you agree that Neil should be charged with manslaughter when he could have just been defending himself?
