HP Veer, Pre 3, and TouchPad - Everything You Need to Know
Wait — the HP Pre? Your eyes are not deceiving you! “Palm” as a brand is no more, and all WebOS products will now be branded with HP logos. At today’s event in San Francisco, HP revealed the next generation of WebOS smartphones and tablets, coming in small, medium, and large (the Veer, Pre 3, and TouchPad, respectively).
Pre 3
- WebOS 2.2
- 3.58” 800 x 480 display
- 1.4 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8x55
- 512 MB of RAM
- 5 megapixel AF camera w/LED flash, 720p recording
- VGA front-facing camera for video calling
- 8-16 GBof internal storage
- GSM / HSPA+ and CDMA
- 1,230 mAh battery
- 64 x 111 x 16 mm (dimensions)
The Pre 3 is meant to be the next generation in the Pre line, and does a pretty good job at it with its roomy 3.6” screen running at 800 x 480 resolution display. It also hosts front and rear facing cameras, as well as full QWERTY slide out keyboard.
Veer
- WebOS 2.2
- 2.6” 400 x 320 display
- 800 Mhz Qualcomm MSM7230
- 512 MB of RAM
- 5 megapixel EDoF camera
- 8 GB of storage
- GSM / HSPA
- 910 mAh non removable battery
- 54.5 x 84 x 15.1 mm (dimensions)
While it may bring to mind thoughts of the ill-fated Kin One with its small build and cutesey appearance, if any of the speed tested demonstrations seen at the event were anything to guage it by, the Veer shouldn’t be judged by its cover in the least. It’s tiny, yes — but boy does it pack a punch with its 800 Mhz Snapdragon qualcom processor running WebOS 2.2!
The TouchPad does actually pose as a threat to upcoming Honeycomb tablets and possibly the upcoming iPad, given the specs and powerful mobile OS. Come this summer, when the TouchPad launches, there will be plenty of competition on the market. We all know what this means - things are about to get heated in the tablet space!
“Touch to Share” is a feature found on all three of these new devices, which essentially let’s you connect multiple WebOS devices just by laying them on top of each other. For example, all you have to do is drop your phone on top of your tablet to transfer a website. Sound familiar? This is essentially a beefier, more useful version of the TouchStone wireless charger. Other accessories for the tablet include a TouchStone 2 dock, wireless keyboard, and case with inbuilt kickstand.
HP also mentioned that WebOS would be coming to PC’s later this year, which is a pretty intriguing proposal although we don’t see ourselves using the Cards-based mobile OS on our 27-inch desktops.
