HP's Todd Bradley teases iPad competitor
At some point or another we’ve all fallen victim to webOS’ illustrious design, its beautiful clean lines, and its dead simple yet intuitive way of getting tasks done, but now we’re hopefully about to see a tablet with everything that’s turned Palm’s plucky little OS into the next mythical giant of the mobile computing world.
During a recent interview with CNBC, HP Personal Systems Group Executive Vice President Todd Bradley had more to talk about than just HP’s overall reason for purchasing the ageing smartphone mogul. In fact, he basically told CNBC to look forward to more than just a tablet; stating:
“So we’ve announced February 9th we have a broad public set of announcements, broadly about the future of webOS and the breath of products that it’ll enable.” - Todd Bradley
So nowhere does it say “tablet,” but as was with the Verizon iPhone (prior to its announcement) it’s pretty much a speculative given at this point.
Bradley later went onto discuss how webOS will hopefully allow consumers to have the best web experience possible, whilst also providing the “best content experience, that they can.” Much like the kings of all things non-conformist aka Apple, Bradley stated that HP would make their webOS based announcements in their own time. Hence the upcoming box social to be held in beautiful downtown San Francisco — when by all rights, the old Palm would have held such an event at the recently concluded Consumer Electronics Show.
Just to conclude: if you’re still slightly dubious that HP-Palm is planning on releasing a tablet equipped with webOS, this should more than lay your suspicions to rest. When asked about how the company plans to differentiate from an iPad ruled market our VP of Personal Systems simply stated: “you and I will talk about that on the 9th.” The keyword here is iPad, should another device have been mentioned, for instance a smartphone we might not be so excited. But as it lays, all fingers point to a webOS based tablet. What ever the company’s got up their sleeve they’ve got a little under a month to keep it hidden.
