Netflix splitting streaming and dvd rentals into two company's -- introducing Qwikster.com and game rentals
Netflix’s price increases went into effect earlier this month and that didn’t go too smoothly with its millions of members from crying bloody murder. It wasn’t so much the price hike as much as the way the company handled it, completely without any soul, just simply stating the price was happening and to conform or be charged. Well, just a few hours ago Netflix’s CEO, Reed Hastings, apologized for the way things were handled, and also within the same statement unveiled plans to create a new company that soley manages the dvd side of things, as well as a whole new video game rental department.
A message from Reed Hastings, Netflix CEO, and the newly dubbed Qwikster CEO, Andrew Rendich:
Game rentals? Well, this certainly changes things up a bit. So does this mean to do streaming and DVD’s/games we’re going to need two separate accounts despite them being under the same company? Well, that certainly blow! And I can only imagine how games will affect the pricing scheme, especially since Gamefly’s basic “1-Game Plan” is 15.95 currently. Though this does explain why things have been kinda crazy at camp Netflix.
More details on Qwikster.com are soon to come…
