Nexus S unites with MeeGo and Ubuntu through unholy matrimony
My oh my, what have we here? A flagship Google device canoodling with a joint Intel Nokia venture, and another open source Linux based operating system? Hmm, well hasn’t someone been a busy little handset. First up, a Nexus S running MeeGo.
Yep, that’s right, Google’s flagship phone has had a piping hot port of an extremely raw unfinished distro of MeeGo popped onto the phone’s internal memory — without the need to flash any roms. (yes!) Sure, it’s a little buggy to say the least, in fact that’s an understatement, very little works at the moment. But hey, at least the Nexus S actually has MeeGo running on it. Nokia we’re talking to you!
Now the second OS dropped onto Sammy’s little monster of a phone is none other than Ubuntu (as a side note: it too was installed without the need to flash). Sure, we’ve seen Ubuntu on just about everything these days, in fact we saw it hacked onto a Barnes and Noble Nook earlier today, but a smartphone’s not really a smartphone until someone’s taken the time to port a favoured distro of Linux to it, right?
