Official Twitter for Android app goes live, impresses the world once over
Not that long ago Twitter stated that it would be committing resources to develop its own client for Android. And guess what? It’s finally arrived.
Twitter’s newest addition appears to have some pretty deep OS integration; with support for Éclair’s Quick Contact bar and tweeting straight from the gallery app. They’ve also included a timeline widget for your home screen; and the added bonus you might ask? You even get the ability to see your friends’ latest tweets whilst inside your contact list and Google Talk app. And from the looks of things, it appears that Twitter’s worked quite closely with Google, contributing several API’s for Android’s already open sourced future. According to Chris Ziegler of Engadget you’ll currently need an Android 2.1 device to use it, but as he said “that’s just an excuse to run out and upgrade to a sweet new phone, right?”
