Wii getting $150 price tag on May 15, Nintendo introducing greatest hits line-up
With only a month or so left until the world’s biggest video game conference goes down in LA, and with it details of Nintendo’s upcoming console, their current system is getting its price dropped lower than ever. Starting May 15th the Wii will be going on store shelves with a reduced price tag of $150, which surprisingly won’t be bundled with Wii Sports, but rather Mario Kart Wii, along with its plastic Wii-Steering wheel accessory.
Nintendo has a lot of moving parts running these days don’t they? First they release the 3DS, then there’s all these rumors clammoring on about Project Cafe and its supposed capabilities to beat out the competition, and now the Wii is getting a hefty price reduction and is now being bundled with an actual full retail game. No longer will new Wii owners get a chance to try their skills at bowling or even tennis Now they’ll be treated to some good ol’ Mario kart racing. And it doesn’t end there either; the Big N is also unveiling their first greatest hits line-up, dubbed Nintendo Selects.
The first four titles chosen can be seen above; Animal Crossing: City Folk, Mario Super Sluggers, Wii Sports, Zelda: Twilight Princess. As Nintendo Selects they will each be priced at $20 and come in special packaging. As for the Wii’s price change, both black and white systems will be available for the reduced price.
Though talk abounds of the company focusing much of their attention on their next-gen system, Reggie Fils-Aime, NoA’s CEO wants everyone to know that the Wii is far from being retired:
Reggie Fils-Amie
Nintendo of America CEO“There is quite a bit more volume to be sold on the Wii home console. And the way we are going to get there is by offering the system at this low price and by including a key software title like Mario Kart[…] From our perspective, there are literally millions of consumers getting into the video-game-playing age. And there’s no better system for those entry consumers than the Wii.”
So if you’re still the only person in your city that doesn’t own a Wii, now’s your chance to get in on the action with a reduced price on the system itself and on quality games.
