BlackBerry 6 updates begin to roll on Verizon for select handsets - Here's how to update
In the age of the smartphone, mobile software is just as important as the accompanying hardware. Which is why if you currently own either a BlackBerry Bold 9650 or a Curve 3G on Verizon’s network, tonight you will be getting a quasi-new phone thanks to the impending BlackBerry 6 OTA (over the air update).
Update Instructions:
To install the update on your compatible device you can either:
- Go to Options > Advance Options > Wireless Update.
- Alternatively, if you’d prefer to install OS 6 via a computer, you’ll need to go to www.blackberry.com/updates and follow the on-screen instructions specifically related to your desktop operating system of choice.
Note for Macintosh users: Before installing the update via your PC, you’ll have to ensure that you have RIM’s custom ‘BlackBerry Desktop Software’ installed.
We’ve already seen BlackBerry 6 running on newly released devices (a la BlackBerry Torch), so it will be interesting to see how both the update process takes place, and whether the OS will run as smoothly on older hardware as it has newer. If you’ve recently updated your BlackBerry to OS 6, let us know in comments how it went, we’re mighty curious.
