Blu-ray Already Out of Date?

Wal-Mart is cutting back on DVD and Blu-ray display area.

Is this the end to buying movie in stores? Has the time finally come where people realize it's smarter to buy a movie on iTunes so you can transfer to every type of electronic you own?

According to Engadget.com more people are now renting from Itunes, Netflix, and Redbox. Most people just rent movies from these very convenient sites and just copy the movie so they always have it. Of course this is completely illegal but whose regulating and how are they going to stop it?

One day you won't even have DVD's or CD's, or they will be come so rare that they are collectors items. The digital age has come and it's not stopping anytime soon. Being able to watch any movie, anytime, just by the click of the button will soon be.

Apple Event Scheduled for Wednesday Sept. 9 - NO Tablet

It has happened every September since 2005, and in a few short weeks it will happen once again. According to sources close to the company, the date is Wednesday, Sept. 9.

The event will be held in San Francisco–most likely at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, where it has occurred in years past–and is expected to showcase upgrades to the iPod line and an update to iTunes that may involve some sort of social element. Our sources insist it will not involve any discussion whatsoever of the tablet Apple is reportedly developing.

Too bad. It’s looking more and more like we’ll have to wait until 2010 for the Tablet.

Now, not all hope is lost, as stated, there will be iPod updates and hopefully, there will be a new iPod touch. The supposed rumors about the iPod touch is it will have a 3 Megapixle camera and a possible processor upgrade. [Read more]

No word yet on who’s to preside over the event. There’s been speculation that it will mark the first public appearance by CEO Steve Jobs since returning from medical leave earlier this year.

Twitter Banned From White House

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs mentioned casually to CNN today that Twitter is blocked on official White House computers. Gibbs clearly doesn't appreciate the value that can be derived from the innovative social network; he jokes about it as if it is a tool for personal exhibitionism.

Many readers here will no doubt recognize that there's a whole lot more that can be done with the service than that. This is from the same administration thatwon't let its employees at the State Department use Firefox(State Dept. for IT admin reasons), so perhaps nothing is surprising. The Twitter admission by Gibbs was excerpted in a video embedded below, originally reported by Andrew Malcolm of theLA Times.

Malcolm points out the irony in the White House having severalofficial Twitter accounts, but blocking the service from its employees' computers. Perhaps that's whyPresident Obamahasn't been able to update very often since being elected.

Some cynics will say this is great news, that taxpayer money isn't being wasted on using Twitter on White House time. Note, though, thatEnergy Secretary Steven Churecently took to Facebook to have conversations with the public about energy policy, for example.

When it comes to rapid, public conversations and easy relationship building, Twitter is better than Facebook. There is a long list of very innovative "Government 2.0" advocates moving conversation along quite quickly on Twitter. Beyond conversation, the network of people on Twitter offer rapid research assistance, some of the fastest news delivery on the planet and other clear sources of value for knowledge workers. If the White House doesn't want its employees to have access to resources like that while at work, it's honestly a loss for all of us.

Billy Mays Found Dead Sunday morning

Billy Mays, the burly, bearded television pitchman known for his boisterous hawking of products such as Orange Glo and OxiClean, has died. He was 50.

Tampa police said Mays was found unresponsive by his wife Sunday morning. A fire rescue crew pronounced him dead at 7:45 a.m.

There were no signs of a break-in, and investigators do not suspect foul play, said Lt. Brian Dugan of the Tampa Police Department, who wouldn't answer any more questions about how Mays' body was found because of the ongoing investigation. The coroner's office expects to have an autopsy done by Monday afternoon.

Early this afternoon, Billy May's son twittered that his dad was dead. Such an awful thing to have to do!

Let us show our respect to this Infomercial legend. Enjoy the video Please leave your respect in the comments.

Apple sued over iTunes gift cards

Illinois residents Daniel and Barbara Owens are suing Apple, accusing the company of fraud related to its iTunes gift cards.

The suit, filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in southern Illinois and obtained by CNET, shows that the couple is seeking monetary damages for Apple's "wrongful, illegal, improper and fraudulent acts."

The Owens claim that Apple markets the gift cards as selling individual songs on iTunes for 99 cents each. The couple argues that not all songs in the iTunes Store are that cheap--some actually cost $1.29. They contend that they have been "denied the benefit of their bargain to purchase any song" from iTunes for 99 cents.

In April, Apple changed the pricing structure of the iTunes Store from 99 cents per song to a variable model in which songs cost 69 cents, 99 cents, or $1.29. The Owens say they purchased several iTunes cards including two $25 cards on March 1, 2008, from Sam's Club and a $15 card on May 19, 2009, from Wal-Mart.

Apple has expanded its presence in many retail outlets over the years, allowing stores like Target, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Walgreens, and others to sell gift cards.

The company is being sued on four counts including two counts of breach of contract, one count of violating the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act, and one count of violating the Consumer Protection Statutes.

The internet came alive like never before as people around the world logged on to follow the stunning news of Michael Jackson's death.

The story created such a surge in online traffic that Google returned an 'error message' for searches of the singer's name as it assumed it was under attack.

And just seconds after the story broke on the American entertainment website TMZ.com, messages or 'Tweets' about the singer on the micro-blogging site Twitter doubled, leading to a temporary shutdown of the site.

This graph shows the surge in internet chatter about Michael Jackson on Twitter as reports came in that he had died

The number of Jackson tracks being listened to on the internet radio Last FM leaped following his death

YES! iPod touch Bluetooth Unlocked! in the OS 3.0 Update.

It was a real downer for iPod touch 2G owners to find out that the nike running accessory connects to the iPod touch via Bluetooth. "We cant use it for anything else!!" thats what I was thinking when I heard this.

Ever since then, iPod touch owners have been begging for the next OS update to have the Bluetooth enabled for all devices. Now one side note, all the cool stuff apple has done in the past 6 months, has been without Steve Jobs.

Hmm and ever since Bill Gates left Microsoft they trashed vista and came up with Windows 7, which is better than any OS out there. Is it that maybe when a CEO works for a company too long, that they maybe, perhaps, get OLD FASHOND. Take this for example, they put Safari 4 out to the public... IN BETA!!! Apple never does that! Unless steve has left. Now look at this. Uncovering a new functionality in the iTouch, now? Why not let the Bluetooth be free right off the bat?

These are images fresh from my iPod touch just after Upgrading! So this came with ALL iPods since day 1 but nobody got to use it till now? Apple might be coming up with something... (different then last week lol)
