MeeGo v1.0 now available for download

It wasn’t too long ago that you were teased with all that MeeGolicious goodness. And now, in a bona fide rush to release the real McCoy, MeeGo v1.0 is now available for download. Available in two flavours for your overly excitable palette (Netbook and Nokia N900) — the first supporting Intel Atom chipsets and the latter supporting… well, Nokia’s N900 ARM based-chipset — surprisingly enough. If you’re prepared to head over to Liliputing (or jump past the break) editor Brad Linder has a recorded video of MeeGo running on his MSI Wind netbook. Oh, and has anyone else noticed that MeeGo looks suspiciously more like Intel’s Moblin than a composite of both Moblin and Maemo? Yeah, that’s what we thought.

MacBook Pro with GeForce GT 330M graphics get unofficial switching app

The long awaited Core i5 and Core i7 MacBook Pro updates brought with them the more powerful, battery sapping NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M discrete graphics chip. And while more is generally better, users lamented Apple’s implementation of graphics switching. Most wanted a simple application that allowed for manual graphics toggling, and well now you’ve got it thanks to Cody Krieger’s gfcCardStatus. It’s said to be a bit buggy, but hey a fix is a fix.

Ubuntu 10.04 “Lucid Lynx” adds several bug fixes, tweaks and the usual GUI updates. Lucid Lynx is currently boasting support for faster boot speeds (especially on devices with SSDs), along with a socially orientated “Me menu.”

BlackBerry 6 Demo Video is Cool

I do not recommend that you watch this with the volume off - because it looks like a bunch of people with ants in their pants, with no sound. Crank it up and enjoy a rather good, hip demo video for the new BlackBerry OS version 6. This is one of the better demo videos that we have seen, and RIM being more business oriented, has really surprised me. This is a must watch promo video, the editing is great and the movement and corky dance moves are a sure fit - Video after the break!

McAfee is shutting down XP computers worldwide

McAfee is now shutting down XP machines left and right - but thanks to the Twitterverse, news spread like wild fire and McAfee has some time to respond. This has been 100% confirmed, and a certain McAfee for Windows XP update is causing computers worldwide to shut down. Apparently DAT update 5958 deletes the svchost.exe file, and then causes mayhem. It makes McAfee turn on itself and causes a loss of network activity, and unstoppable restarts. The final total of botched PC’s could reach the millions if the McAfee team can’t come up with a fix in the next few hours. Engadget will have updates on the situation.

San Diego and Denver getting Microsoft Stores

San Diego and Denver, you are the next cities selected by Microsoft to receive flesh and blood retail stores. Mission Viejo, California and Phoenix, Arizona were the original spots for the first pair of stores, but apparently Microsoft thinks it’s time to branch out and expand. Apple, be sure to stay on your toes - iPad and all.

If you don’t live on the west side of the states then you may have never set foot into one of these stores, so check out the following video on what you can expect to find if you ever visit one.
