iPhone 4 Hits Verizon with New Antenna Design, coming February 10th
The iPhone 4 on Verizon. We’ve all been waiting for it. We speculated on it. And now it’s here. And it’s more different than we imagined.
Thruthfully, the iPhone 4 on Verizon is the same piece of hardware as the phone you can get on AT&T but with new CDMA (that’s right - no LTE) notches. What this means for users is that they’ll have to buy new Verizon iPhone specific cases - even the Apple Bumper case will have to undergo a minor revision.
The other big addition for Verizon is the capability to act as a 5 device WiFi hotspot. The device itself runs iOS 4.2.5, which builds in the hotspot feature into the “Settings” app.
As for the whole 4G deal, Apple claims that they didn’t want to “force unwanted design decisions” due to the different antenna configuration LTE would require. Thus, we’re stuck with a Verizon 3G only version of the iPhone 4. Pricing for the handset remains the same at $199 for 16 GB and $299 for 32 GB. No word on the white iPhone as some had speculated would actually make an appearance with the Verizon launch.
Pre-orders start on February 3rd and the actual handsets will go on sale the 10th.
