Twitter rolling out image hosting within the next few weeks
Whether you tweet often or not, chances are you’ve used or viewed an image that was hosted on a service like twitpic or yfrog. Well, Twitter continues to grow and will soon be offering this tool themselves when a new feature is rolled out to the masses in the oncoming weeks. That, and a new revamped search that will help you find the latest trending photos and videos as well.
Image Hosting and Search Refined
Twitter’s 140 character limit has always kept thoughts and opinions short and sweet, but pictures have the ability to express 1,000 words in a single gaze. Twitter wants its users to take advantage of this proven fact by offering them the tools needed to upload images without the need to going to an external site to do so. The feature, which is yet to be dated for release, will be in connection with Photobucket (who will be doing the backend hosting), and will eventually be released for users in the next several weeks.
That aside — a better, fine-tuned search is actually hitting the social tweeting network right away, and is already in effect. Along with the new robust search function, users will have the chance to view the latest in media (photos and videos) related to your query on the site’s sidebar area. Clicking on a photo or video will transport you to a gallery style page (seen in the title image above) that displays the most relatable media according to what’s been searched.
