Apple Hits Back at Verizon With The iPhone

I recently saw this ad on TV and it seemed to me that Apple was directly attacking Verizon after they attacks them and AT&T. Verizon was only really attacking AT&T until they created the "Misfit Toys" ad that unclouded the iPhone. The commercial shows off how the iPhone is the only phone that allows you to check movie times, send an MMS message of a map, all while making a phone call.  Each of the two new TV spots ends with the line "Can your phone and your network do that?"

Get 3 Songs for Free on Amazon

Amazon is being a pal today, and issuing a discount code to give anyone a $3 credit toward any purchase of MP3's, whether it be a single or a discount on an album. So if you have any favorited songs on Pandora or Last.FM, this might be the time to nab them for yourself.

Jailbroken iPhone gets Dangerous Worm - No Rickroll here

Having a jailbroken iPhone has its advantages, but now it seems like it's going to have some huge disadvantages. We posted on the last worm that affected the phone - a small time prank dealing with the "Rick Roll". This time, though, it's not something to laugh about. The new worm, which works a bit like PC botnet's, digs its way onto your device by use of Wi-Fi and 3G connections, and singles your phone out for the attacker - wherever they are. From there, they can do all kinds of things to you, but the specifics elude me.

At the moment the only known way to protect yourself is to un-jailbreak your phone, and downloaded Apple's latest firmware. Sometimes safety comes at sacrifice it would seem.

Twitter and Paid Business Accounts

Twitter has been immensely popular within the last two years - garnishing attention from Oprah, all the way up to President Obama. But did you know that even with all that press and all the use that it's gotten, Twitter's profit margins are thin compared to other social networking giants. So in an attempt to create a successful business model  Twitter has come up with the "Paid Business" account.

"This takes advantage of some of the commercial use of Twitter we've seen from businesses like airlines and big box stores. We want to present to them a layer of features that allows them to become better at Twitter, show them some of the analytics."
                                                                                     -Biz Stone, Twitter Co-Founder

For an upgrade fee businesses will have access to a bit more "layers", as Stone put it. These layers would contain information such as statistics and feedback, and it's a no brainer why companies, especially bigger ones, would want to jump on the idea and get even more of a hold on who's checking them out.

Multitasking done right on your iPhone - Video Demo

We have seen many Multitasking implementations for the iPhone, but this one does something a little different -- it is real (and it actually works!). What you're seeing here is really the combination of two apps, standby jailbreak justifier and essential iPhone app Backgrounder, which lets your designate any app to run in the background, and new task switcher interface called Multifl0w.  Sadly, it's only free on a trial basis, after which it'll cost your five dollars. Backgrounder and Kirikae, though? They're still free, in all sense of the word.

the "Super glue an iPhone to the Sidewalk" prank

Watch as every bit of hope and effort quickly turns to fail and hilarity. For those of you who cringe at the sight of a lady kicking an iPhone, don't worry its a $20 prop, no iFriend 3GS's were harmed in the making of the video. What would you do if you saw an iPhone on the ground, but it was super glued?

Core i7 iMacs shipping with cracked screens, or not working at all

Apple launched the new iMacs a while back and they were supposed to be amazing, powerful machines. Unfortunately they are a little more brittle than we thought -- Apple's support forums and other Mac boards around the web reveal that some machines are showing up DOA (Dead on Arrival) and / or with cracked screens. Engadget just bought a new i7 iMac and it does not boot at all. The cracked screens seem to be affecting the bottom left corner. So we recommend that if you want a nice 27" iMac, you should hold tight for a bit. If you already got one, maybe take it back to the Apple store and ask a couple questions, they may (should) have some answers.
