Google trying Out a new Way to Search - You can Too

Google Wave seems to be having its affect on everything Google does now, since there's been some hubbub about Gmail getting a facelift, and now the actual Google search page and results is reflecting that. Not out publicly yet, the new Google interface is still simple and clean, but now gives you the Image, Video, Shopping options on the left hand side. Not sure if this is much of a change. I'd actually like to see one where it's on the right hand side, rather than the left.
Anyway, want to test it out? Well, you can if you follow these simple instructions
Go to Google.com, then copy and paste this into your address bar:
javascript:void(document.cookie="PREF=ID=20b6e4c2f44943bb:U=4bf292d46faad806:TM=1249677602:LM=1257919388:S=odm0Ys-53ZueXfZG;path=/; domain=.google.com");
Reload Google - You should see the improvised version now.
For now it seems to only be working for the US version, or so I've read. Leave some comments for our other readers if you have any problems.
Webby's most Influential Moments of the decade
Wikipedia's launch, Napster's shut down, and the 2008 US Presidential Election are just some picks from the Webby Award's top 10 most influential internet moments of the decade. For those who are unaware, the Webby's, done by The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, have been going for some time. As earlier as 1996, each year they have selected and awarded those who've contributed in someway to the ever expanding internet.
Google Wave Diary: Days 19 and 20
Days 19 and 20: I finally got my invites!!!
Well, Brandon and Nick both have become a part of Wave in the past few weeks, so the experience hasn't been so lonesome anymore. Being able to communicate on the fly in a message feed is pretty productive, important features are still unavailable; uploading and downloading files, advanced settings, and extensions are in the pipeline.
It's still a bit buggy, with it taking more than just a few seconds for a wave ready to be viewed, but that's expected. Mobile support, namely the iPhone's, is still a bit shady - text getting cut off. But I'm positive Google will have that all fixed when it becomes public.
OS Xbox Pro: Get Use Out of Your Old Xbox

Everyone has seen a Hackintosh, but this one is just too cool to miss. With the case of an old Xbox console, and as much power as a $4,500 Mac Pro, the specs on this thing are crazy: 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550s paired with an NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT card, 8GB of RAM, a 16GB SSD, and four traditional hard disk drives (one each to boot Windows 7 and OS X) plus two 500GB 7,200rpm drives in a RAID0 array for video editing.
It took Will Urbina only $1,500 to build his OS Xbox Pro - this of course does not include manual labor, which for this project is plenty expensive. I must say I'm amazed and would love to get my hands on one of these!

iPhoto 8.1.1 Update

A new update for iPhoto '09 was released today. It contains fixes for face recognition performance and accuracy, and also resolves minor issues with book ordering. The update can be installed via Software Update or through a standalone installer. It is recommended for all users of iPhoto '09.
WARNING:
If you imported photos of people while using iPhoto 8.1, there's an extra step you should take after installing the 8.1.1 update. Select all those photos, Control-click to open the contextual menu, and then choose Detect Missing Faces. This will re-detect the faces in those photos and correct any face recognition issues introduced in iPhoto 8.1. You should not quit iPhoto during the Detect Missing Faces process.
So far the update hasn't had any problems and is helping on performance stats a lot.
