Banners at WWDC 2011 reveal new iCloud Logo

If you haven’t heard, Apple’s annual Developer Conference is kicking off this Monday with a keynote presentation from Steve Jobs showing off iOS 5, OS X Lion and something new called “iCloud”. iOS 5 and OS X Lion have been somewhat placed on the back-burner with iCloud being the driving force behind the WWDC 2011 hype. No-one really knows exactly iCloud will be, but we know it’s going to butt heads with Google and Amazon.

Working iPhone iOS 5 notification concept

Notifications on the iPhone worked great the first year or so of the device’s exsistence, but once Apple allowed developers to enable push notifications and added more functionaliaty into the device, the iOS notification system has become a bit of a mess. This is a working demo of a new notification system created by @2guysfrompoland

A concept for Google Maps - Highlight the actual streets!

Note: We have to give credit where credit is due. This idea was thought up by courvoisier_goldteef on Reddit who created this pretty interesting concept for Google Maps. What I did was take his original concept and turned it into something it could actually look like. Why hasn’t Google done this? We don’t quite know — full view after the break!

Awesome Gmail Desktop App could be coming soon

So, there have been many Email Desktop apps popping up in the past while (mostly for Mac), and most of them support Gmail, but there haven’t really been any great Gmail only apps. There are some features in Gmail that don’t translate to other email providers, so sometimes they are stripped out of these Email apps to make sure the experience is consistent, but what if there was an app just for Gmail, and what if it worked on a multitude of OS’s?

Lockitron - Use your phone to lock or unlock doors... from anywhere!

The concept behind Lockitron is simple: install a nifty deadbolt on your existing door, whip out your phone and access the app to lock or unlock your door — presto, you’re in and out. It’s still in “beta” testing, so you can’t put in an order for the new fancy lock system just yet, but there’s a big chance that this might become a reality. — Details and demonstration after the break!

Squarespace V6 - Breaking down the official announcement

So, this is version 6 of Squarespace and that’s really all we get so far, some screenshots of random photos and small glimpses of the interface, but does that snuff any of the excitement? Nope. Squarespace version 6 is shaping up to be a driving force in re-shaping web development as we know it, and version 6 could be the first sign of Squarespace breaking into the mainstream, and catching the eyes of entities like AOL blogs, Gawker and Okay Geek of course!

Amazing motion CGI car race by Pantural - Video

Taking over 110 days to render a video only a mere 5 minutes long, this is sure to amaze you. No matter how real you think this may be, it’s not. Everything was done using a few motion design programs such as 3DS Max and After Effects. It’s truely some of the best of work I’ve seen. Enjoy.
