Facebook iPhone Dev Quit's - Apple's approval proccess to blame

My decision to stop iPhone development has had everything to do with Apple’s policies.” – Joe Hewitt

Joe Hewitt is the man behind one of the most popular apps on the iTunes store, the Facebook app. Sadly, he just tweeted that he is done and no longer working on the app.

"Time for me to try something new. I’ve handed the Facebook iPhone app off to another engineer, and I’m onto a new project.

On Joe's website he says:

"
My decision to stop iPhone development has had everything to do with Apple’s policies. I respect their right to manage their platform however they want, however I am philosophically opposed to the existence of their review process. I am very concerned that they are setting a horrible precedent for other software platforms, and soon gatekeepers will start infesting the lives of every software developer.

The web is still unrestricted and free, and so I am returning to my roots as a web developer. In the long term, I would like to be able to say that I helped to make the web the best mobile platform available, rather than being part of the transition to a world where every developer must go through a middleman to get their software in the hands of users.”

This is a big deal because Joe is basically the one-man show behind the Facebook app. Hewitt has been very vocal over the years about Apple's ridiculous App Store approval policies, even posting about it on his site last August. Hewitt claims Apple's review system should be eliminated completely.

Though he no longer works on the app, he is still with Facebook and will continue to work with Apple because they continuously offer the best product out there.

"Ink" film thanks its Success to Torrents & Piracy

When movie makers think of pirating and torrents I'm sure the first thing that comes to mind are dollar signs floating away. But to Director and Writer of the Independent film Ink, Jamin Winans, piracy has a whole new meaning... and that's success.

Ink is about an 8 year old little girl named Emma, who falls into coma after being kidnapped by a monster. Ink, as the monster is called, takes her away into a dreamworld where she is used to battle the forces of light and dark.

In an open letter to just about everyone, Jamin writes about what bit torrent clients did to his movie after being released, and how a snowball effect of pirate proportions made it a must see film of the year.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Review - Part 1

After first playing the game I was super stoked and am loving it. The game feels smoother and somehow improved from Modern Warefare 1.

In a recent post by our very own Ricardo Trejo he explained about the controversial first level. Luckily, the game has an option to skip certain levels, such as one mentioned above, just in case the player finds it offensive. Sadly, though, I agree, if you can't handle the level, then why are you playing the game in the first place?

Sony Rewards New Customers & Shuns Old

Sadly Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, which was filling every movie theater across the nation including my city IMAX, won't be coming to DVD and Blu-ray until just after the holidays. Fortunately for you Sony TV and Blu-ray player owners, you can stream the movie for a full 24 hours for free a month before it comes out. Starting December 8th, you can stream the video in full 720p with full controls. Here is the downside, it's only free for new customers and for old well you can still get it, it's just going to cost you. Sony will extend the offer to existing customers so long as you don't mind paying $24.95 for the one time 720p rental when you can buy the movie a month later with special features and 1080i for the same price!

Fork Lift - Epic Fail

Funny video that has been shown on Digg, Conan O'Brian, and many other shows. Don't worry the man is safe but this makes you think about what could happen in Costco.

Squarespace Now On the iPhone and its free!

Well fellow Squarespacers, it's finally here! Apple finally came through and after months of reviewing and accidentally uploading the beta, the real app in live in iTunes.

This app is perfect for a Squarespacer who has a blog or just wants to check their stats on there page. Features include Blog management, site stats, posting blogs, preview, multiple accounts, editing post, even uploading multiple images in real time to your site.

Many users like myself have been waiting for this app to come out and I'm happy to say it's amazingly simple, smooth, and easy to use program that just works. For God sakes if you have an iPhone, check it out because it's FREE. Of course you do need a Squarespace account but if you don't, try the 14 day free trial on the site, and if you want 10% off every monthly payment, use our coupon code t3chh3lp.

As much as i love it, there are three things i wish it would have. First for stats, I wish it would say if the view were unique, page views, or robots like it shows in the picture. Also I am a editor for this site but not Full account, I'm only an add-on and for some reason I can't add it on my accounts. Third I wish i could re-size photos and select where they are in the text rather than have all the photos at the top of the post.

All in all it is a great program I would have easily paid for but because the good people at Squarespace are so nice, it's FREE -- Get it here
