We are at CES early and its going good, only getting better!

Ricardo is now at the Pre-CES press events and what not and I thought I would let you guys know what's up. First off, this photo is most of the equipment he is taking (he also has a Nikon D40 which he is using to take the photo) and you can see, he is carrying it all in a Halo messenger bag. Epic. We have been having some issues with the WiFi there, but its not even up and running yet, so its all good!

So what is going on with Ricardo?

The internet isn't all that great here at the event, and the wifi isnt set up yet. So tweeting and uploading to flickr may have to be put on hold until I get home - and or wifi is up. I talked to the staff but they said they aren't sure when the Wifi will be up. Note: Im at the Venetian where the press conferences will be, so the Convention center itself may be a bit different.

I took some photos at the state of the industry event, and Im going right now to "CES unveiled", a little shin dig where it's a mini exhibit hall of the upcoming stuff during the main event on Thursday.
Im waiting in line, snagging an open wifi point right here, but I may not be able to connect to a little later.
Email sent to me @ 6:47 pm EST

So everything is going to be epic, just get ready you guys. Remember to follow us on Twitter -- @t3chh3lpCES -- and subscribe to the RSS feed -- here -- so you are all ready for CES.

Google Nexus One -- Carriers, Specs and Price

The Nexus one may be one of the most anticipated phones of the century. It features Google's flagship OS "Android" which powers the Motorola Droid and 99 percent of the new HTC phones -- on that note, the Nexus One's hardware is manufactured by HTC. It seems like there is a love affair happening between Google and HTC. Moving on, as for service carriers, its T-Mobile, Verizon, and Vodafone. Not AT&T (but if you must you still can use their service, but with no 3G) and it will be around the same price point as the iPhone 3GS.

App of the Week: Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock

There are few things in life I value more then my sleep but sleep is basically the most important. I love to sleep. I do it a lot, and our interactions will surely suffer if I did not receive a decent amount of sleep the night before. Sadly most of the time I don’t go to bed early enough because I though of a cool project to work on or video games.

I was browsing the app store for alarm clocks and I came across this little gem. It’s a mere $0.99 but I kid you not when I say I would pay $50 for it. In order to truly understand the greatness of this app, we have to take a test for a week like I did.

Official: Apple buys Quattro Wireless

After last nights speculations, Apple has finally aquired the mobile ad network company Quattro Wireless. Anything to do with ads we don't like at all, but this could have its good sides too. Although a sales price was not disclosed (rumors say $275 Million) the sale was official.

In a news post on Quattro's site, CEO Andy Miller says that its products and services won't change "for now", but we know that Apple has some sort of plan involving the App-store (maybe an added value for developers) or start a new era of free, non-carrier subsidized, ad supported smartphones. This could be a big influence on how developers will make money. [via Engadget]

Skiff Reader - the Largest and thinnest eBook reader ever

Bigger than any existing eBook reader, and optimized for magazines and larger publications, the Skiff reader may fill some holes in peoples hearts.  The Skiff Reader offers a durable 11.5-inch (1600 x 1200) "Metal Foil" touchscreen display, but it's still just a quarter of an inch thick, which is a plus, especially for an eBook reader.

The device will be WiFi and 3G (Sprint) capable so it will be able to connect to the Skiff digital store. The store will focus on bigger publications like newspapers and magazines, which is almost impossible to read on other eBook readers. The store will also support yet unannounced content partnerships including books, bit again, specially focusing on large format print. This could be the fist eBook reader I would buy, just because of the size and being able to finally read magazines on it.

Apple is now selling 350 Apps per second

Does anything in technology sell that fast? Does it even seem possible? Are people spending every waking hour buying apps, or are there just millions of iPhones? Lets break it down -- Apple has sold one billion apps since the two billion September 28 mark, reaching three billion in just 98 days. That translates to 30,612,244 apps per day, 1,275,510 per hour, 121,043 per minute, 350 every second. Is it just me, or should the music, ebook, and TV industry re-think their business model. Also, 95% of apps downloaded had the letter "i" and the words "boobs" and "fart" in the titles.
