Laptops, netbooks, tablets - pfff - all child's play to enTourage's eDGe Dualbook. I gravitated toward this thing because it looked nice from afar, but as I got closer, inches away, the silver coat made it look a bit 90's. What do you think? One side is an e-reader (9.7" display), the other is a wannabe tablet with an LCD screen (10.1"). The two panels work together with the use of simple, and some times complicated, shortcuts which you utilize using the gizmo's stylus pen. Writing notes, reading a book, surfing the web - or doing all three at a time - has never simpler.
For example, let's say you're reading a newspaper article and you don't know what a word means -That's no problem for the dualbook - What you'd then do is select the word in question and go to the menu bar up at the top of the e-reader side, which will then open up a web page on the right screen's side to wikipedia. It's a cool concept, but during the demo it looked a bit sluggish and clunky.
It also works for images which can only be seen in black and white on the left side, but when selected can be seen in full color on the right.
It runs off Google's Android OS, connects via Wifi or 3G, can play audio and video, and also hosts a camera and microphone. It'll be available next month (Feb. 2010) at $490. You can pre-order it now on their site.
There are literally hundreds upon hundreds of iPod accessories out there, though, speakers are the one thing that everyone should own. This beautiful work of design is called the FireFly made by VestaLife; It's light weight, portable in every degree, and to be honest, "pretty". Pull apart the "wings", dock your iPod (or other mp3 player), and you're set for some easy listening with its 2.1 sound system. When charged it can last up to 10 hours, but also comes with an AC plug. There are a couple of varieties to choose from and designs as well - all can be purchased now from their store online, as well as the Apple Store.
The firefly is priced at $129.99 respectively, and is available now.
While at the CES Unveiled event Oregon Scientific's Aroma Diffuser Elite really caught my eye; an alarm clock with aroma scents billowing from the top. The clock itself plays nature sounds to make sure you aren't awoken by that annoying beeping tone (Gawd, it's like nails on a chalk board to me), and lights at the center of the clock change color over time and can be changed manually with the remote.
It's priced at $100 even. Didn't catch any release date.
So today was a day of firsts: my first time at CES, my first press event, and my first time mingling with the tech industry's finest. It was fun, but frantic to say the least. As t3chh3lp's one man army here at CES it's been a little overwhelming, but it's nothing I can't handle. The only thing that's worrying me now though is that today wasn't even the real thing.
So what did happen today then? CES Unveiled. What's that? It's a press event to get people excited over a handful of products that will be fully on dispay when the real show gets underway on Thursday. There were laptops, e-book readers, and 3D technology with hordes of nerds crowding around them to find out info like release windows and price points; It was a new thing for me, but I slowly became one of them as the night progressed.
Free food, live music, and well known industry vets had me busy the whole time. Catch my impressions on the gadgets I saw in the posts to come, and follow me as I continue my coverage from CES.
We are inside CES - Huzzah! Welcome to the beginning of the best CES coverage possible. Ricardo just updated this to his Twitter -- @ricardotrejo -- and we are super stoked! He is making sure to start uploading some pics to our live photo stream of what happens inside the press event to give you a sneak peek before CES even starts! Remember, we are launching our full CES 2010 coverage on Thursday Stay tuned...
