Autonomous Quadrotor uses Kinect to be awesome

This is a new autonomous quadrotor that was designed and built at the Hybrid Systems Lab at UC Berkeley, and it’s safe to say this thing is awesome! It’s powered using an Xbox Kinect using the OpenKinect/Freenect drivers. Really cool tech, and just another wicked Kinect hack to add to the list.

Tumblr will be back online, 24 hours after going down

According to Tumblr’s latest Tweet, they are suffering issues with one of their database clusters but just under an hour ago, they managed to bring it back to life and plan to get their service re-opened — after 24 hours of downtime. “The recovering database cluster is online and healthy. We’re incrementally opening up access to blogs while monitoring performance.” — we don’t quite know when it will be back online, but there are millions of deprived bloggers, ready to flood the site once more and put it under even more stress. Lets hope Tumblr can make it through.

Steve Wozniak decided to team up with Robert Scoble to explain all of these interesting things in the museum, and why they’re so vital to the existence of current technology.

t3ch Review - Logitech Wireless Illuminated Keyboard K800

When we first heard about the Logitech Wireless Illuminated Keyboard K800, we were shocked at how many of our gripes from the original Logitech Illuminated Keyboard were seemingly fixed. So when Logitech gave us the opportunity to try out the new version for ourselves, we jumped at the chance. What I expected to be the sole addition of a wireless feature turned out to be a completely redesigned product.

What if the Finder looked like this in OS X Lion?

OS X Lion is coming very soon, and fanboys are chomping at the bit to see the new goodies they get to play with — but Matthew Skiles on Dribbble is taking a different approach, and looking at the smaller things. He made a great mockup of what OS X Lion’s Finder should look like, and we have to admit it’s pretty slick. Now remember, this is just a mockup and there’s no plans of it being included in Apple’s new OS — Full screenshot after the break!

Xbox 360 Review - Kinect

Nintendo revolutionized the gaming industry with motion controls in 2006, just a year after the Xbox 360 had first launched. Now entering into the 5th year of its lifespan, the Xbox is getting its own motion controller: the Kinect Sensor. Without the need for any controller between you and the action, as well as added features such as voice commands and gesture based menus, is the Kinect the next “big” thing. Or will it become just another gaming peripheral that ends up making the 360 the next Dreamcast?

DaVinci gets Ported from Microsoft Surface to Xbox Kinect

Does anyone remember the Microsoft Surface table? Yeah, me neither. Well, apparently Razorfish, a marketing firm responsible for developing software for Surface, has ported a well known application known as DaVinci over to Microsoft’s latest contraption, the Xbox Kinect. What’s DaVinci you ask? If the video on the left doesn’t explain it well enough, by using mid-air gestures users can create objects and control physics, as well as interact with the environment with pulleys and levers with a simple flick of the wrist.

Where Kinect fails as a gaming device to some, it’s open source applications like this that should get everyone excited.
