Google Navigation Hands on Video
We apologize for being fanish, but Google has pulled off something with its new Navigation elements in Google Maps (or is it Google Maps in a Navigation app? It's hard to tell) that has serious ramifications for a navigation device industry used to charging money for functionality.
Paul Miller @ Engadget
Paul makes a good point, if this kind of business outlook, on Google's part, is successful this could change how this kind of navigation or GPS business model is implemented. We all know the reason why Google can make this, and give it away for free (with a new Android 2.0 phone) is because this is a very small part of their business. They have deep pockets.
But what does this mean for the other GPS/Navigation companies who's main revenue stream, is the software (and device) and also their main source of income. It seems very threatening for these other companies like Garmin, Navigon and others, to see a new Navigation app available for free which may be better, or "just as good" and they can't do a thing about it. Leave your thoughts...
