Minimalism in t3ch: Simplify your Needs & Value your Gaming Experiences

Pic by gnackgnackgnack

I'm a huge gamer. It's been my main pastime for years ever since I was a wee lad, but as I have become an adult I've come to realize that those games don't come cheap. Next gen systems, new games, DLC, it all can hit your wallet pretty hard if you aren't mindful of your spending habits. Knowing how to spend, when to spend, and where to spend to satisfy your gaming need are all important things every gamer should thoroughly be versed in.

But before I delve into the ways on how to save your money, why not let's take a look at why you're buying these games in the first place.

Look at these questions and ask yourself them:

How often do you buys games? Do you go out and grab any game that peaks your interest, or do you research before laying down the cash? And what about those games that you've finished and then set on the shelf, never to played with again? Are they still earning their keep or have they long been forgotten? What did you do to earn the money you spent on to buy your games? Was the trade off of the money earned for the game bought an even trade?

People may think this is taking it a little too deep but when you look at it these are all valid points that should be considered.

Play Halo 3 and "Be a Hero" for Haiti

As many of our readers already know, Haiti was devastated last Tuesday by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that killed thousands and destroyed many homes and families. You can donate to many different organizations like the American Red Cross, but if you're a gamers you may want to help on a more personal level. That's why Bungie wants to contribute as well - launching a campaign called "Be a Hero!", which consists of selling a special version of one of their shirts, with 100 percent of the profits going towards helping Haiti. Not to mention from now until the beginning of the February, Bungie will donate 100 percent of its profits from the Bungie Store (excluding 3rd party things like TVs) straight to Haiti Relief via the Red Cross. More details after the jump

t3ch Review: Urbanears Tanto Headphones

Product: Urbanears Tanto Headphones

Price: $40

Pro’s: built in mic, simplistic design, rest easy on your head, sound quality is surprisingly amazing

Con’s: feel flimsy, no remote controls on mic

Where to buy: Amazon, TurnTable, iSound

About: Urbanears is the offspring of parent company Zound Industries. Based in Swedan, their head gear could be likened to art instead of just gadgetry. Solid color schemes and partnerships with Marvel, Hello Kitty, and the NHL, help keep personalities unique against the white totalitarian earbud regime we’ve each personally laid witness to in so many people’s ears.

Fun Fact: The three headphones in Urbanears’ current line are named after cities in Sweden: Tanto, Medis, and Plattan

United States Internet Speed is Declining - This sucks

Akamai let their quarterly State of the Internet report out into the wild this week, along with this chart showing the fastest national networks in the world. According to this peppy little chart, from 2008 to 2009, the world's internet got 13% faster on average. America's got 2.4% less awesome, in other words, this sucks. The weird (but cool) part is that this chart shows that even the top 10 countries in terms of broadband speed, show no signs of slowing down. In fact, they are speeding up!

Even though this chart could ruin your day, be thankful you don't live on the Island of Mayotte. It came in last of the 203 nations tested. Ouch.

New York Times Beginning to charge access for the Apple Tablet

Most of you know that the New York Times has worked content deals with Apple and have begun formatting their site for the iSlate, but did you know they are getting ready to charge for access via the Tablet? New York Magazine is reporting from what seems to be grounded word that the New York Times will start charging online readers for its content. That may seem old fashioned and unsurprising, but the announcement will be heard by the public "in a few weeks", right around the time of the Apple Tablet Jan 27th launch, when Steve pulls out the tablet from his giant pocket and shows it off, while we all sing koombia.

Video: Modern Warfare 2 Insane Custom Kit Exploit - 100+ Kills

This is truly an epic find; a tutorial explaining how to exploit a custom kit to rack up insane kills. Obviously not many people have figured it out yet, but now that the word is out Infinity Ward needs to fix this because it basically makes you an unstoppable army of one.

The kit consists of this: 'One Man Army' perk for replenishing everything you have, an assault rifle with a F2000 grenade launcher (a.k.a. 'noob tube'), and the 'Scrambler' perk. This will give you a real unfair upper hand on basically any number of people, and to top it off it requires no talent at all.

Basically your 'Noob Tube' has twice the blast radius and twice the power, along with everything else -- hell, when you are in a chopper you get a Chuck Norris enhanced gun that all you need to do is get the bullets within 4 feet of somebody and bam! All I know is this needs to be fixed immediately or there's gonna be a lot more whiny 12 year olds getting 5000 kills on Xbox Live.

R2-D2 Console mod has 8 Different consoles inside

Just when you thought you have seen the best case mod ever, you see this one. This is not a case mod it's a console mod made from an R2-D2 cooler and inside it packs eight gaming consoles.

It’s definitely a fantastic feat of engineering to get all of them to fit in such a small space and then have an R2D2 head-mount projector and built in sound system to work on top of it all. (click on pics to see full size)
