Newell: Fight piracy by offering better service than what pirates are downloading

In the world of gaming there’s not always a clear cut way to make money. Our time today is much different than decades past where ones could simple cash in on a quick side-scroller for kids to play. DLC, piracy, free-to-play models, and expansions have changed the way developers make and lose money. But one studio in particular seems to have figured out the in’s and out’s of what makes consumers tick, as well as the best means to fight against the losses incurred by piracy. We’re talking about the one and only Valve, headed by Gabe Newell. — More after the break!

Thought your shiny Apple tablet device was safe when you’ve enabled a pass code? Haha, think again! Well, I suppose it’s no laughing matter, but the guys at 9to5mac have discovered a work around using a smart cover that bypasses that required pass code when the device is ready to be turned off. And just to let you guys know… yes, people can access your info and even delete apps with this method.

How close are we to Star Trek technology? -- (Infographic)

It’s obvious to see that many of today’s technological wonders were inspired by the concepts that were thought up in the early days of cinema and television. One of the most iconic programs to feature high-tech was none other than Star Trek, William Shatner and all. You could say our modern day mobile devices might have directly come from the communicators seen while our favorite space crew traversed new plantery terrains. But what else has come, or will soon come from the world of Star Trek to our own? — More after the break!

Realistically adding objects to photos - Video

Once we started up the video, we were expecting something amazing, but we had no idea that the most amazing aspect would be the simplicity. A new breakthrough developed by Kevin Karsch, Varsha Hedau, David Forsyth and Derek Hoiem allows users to relisticly place objects into legacy photos, and animate them with insane realism. Their paper can be read here.

Anonymous uses skills to attack and release usernames of those involved in pedophile network

Alright, so we all are aware that Anonymous hasn’t always used their Justice League-type skills in the most wisest fashion possible — like that ill-concieved attack on Sony which brought PSN service to a screeching hault for almost an entire month. Yeah, well like many superheroes who need time to developy their crime fighting skills, Anon has finally found an outlet to show off its muscle, taking down the scum of the internet down; pedophiles and their innumberable underground sites and networks. — More after the break!

Razer Nostromo review

The keyboard isn’t exactly an ideal controller for gaming. It’s a long rectangular thing and you really only use the left half of it for executing gaming commands, with your right hand manuvering the mouse. That’s why dedicated gamepads such as the Razer Nostromo exist. Featuring 16 customizable keys and an 8 way directional thumb pad, the Nostromo offers a much more ergonomic way to game. But is it worth the $70 entry price? — Our full review after the break!
