Apple confirms Siri won't be ported to older iDevices

Apple has recently confirmed to a developer of its iOS platform that it has “no plans” to bring Siri, the highly intuitive voice controlled personal assistant software available on its most recent iPhone (the iPhone 4S), to any older devices. Unfortunately it doesn’t come as much of a shock, sources close to the company originally reported that a port of Siri was slim at best, yet those of us with an iPhone 4 or iPad 2 were still hoping for an optimistic outcome. Alas that optimism has been quashed. — More after the break!

Siri hacked to work on iPhone 4 and iPod touch

The iPhone 4S may be twice as fast as its predecessor and also feature a pretty sweet camera, capable of shooting at 1080p resolutions, but the reason why anyone was really convinced to fork over the extra cash for the new handset was the introduction of the Siri voice-activated personal assistant app. But why is it that it was only available for the 4S when technically it could run on the current iPhone 4? Well, someone decided to test out this theory, and you can guess the results. — More after the break!

Zeebox makes watching TV sound exciting again - Video

We’ve seen a lot of apps that have done the whole “social cable TV” thing, but we think Zeebox has hit the nail on the head in a number of areas that similar services haven’t thought to seek out. Twitter integration is cool, but the fact that Zeebox can pull in realtime, useful information for the show you are watching (even music) is really exciting. We can’t wait for this to arrive in North America!

Realistically adding objects to photos - Video

Once we started up the video, we were expecting something amazing, but we had no idea that the most amazing aspect would be the simplicity. A new breakthrough developed by Kevin Karsch, Varsha Hedau, David Forsyth and Derek Hoiem allows users to relisticly place objects into legacy photos, and animate them with insane realism. Their paper can be read here.

Registration for Xbox Live's public preview program is now open

While it’s nowhere near as big of a change as the original ‘blades’ look to the NXE, this new Xbox Live update is the biggest update since then. From what it appears it will also be the last to bring any big changes to the UI, as it will adapt the popular “metro” style live-tiles we’ve seen on Windows Phone 7, as well as what will be making its way to Windows 8. And if you can’t wait until the update goes live, you’ll be happy to know that the public preview program (beta) is now open for registration. — More after the break!

Xbox's 2011 fall dashboard update eyes a November 25th release

We’ve been hearing and seeing all kinds of news about the upcoming fall update hitting the Xbox 360 and its ever-changing dashboard. But it looks like we might finally have learned the release date to the Windows 8 inspired, Kinect-heavy gaming interface. And it looks like November 25th — a.k.a. this year’s Black Friday — will be the chosen date. — More after the break!
