Luke Skywalker aka Mark Hamill attended the VGA's and did not approve

I was hopeful for this year’s VGA’s. Why? Well, like the SEGA fans who constantly fell prey to the Sonic cycle, I seemed to believe that Geoff Keighley has always wanted to do the right thing — that he was simply biding his time until the show garnered enough of an audience, and then he would one year lift the veil, poof some magic fairy dust, and give us the ritzy, glamerous award show we’ve always wanted. But nope. No, no no, far from it. — More after the break!

Here are your 2011 VGA winners and premiere trailers

As the show began there was a glimmer of hope and promise. Zach Levi, star of NBC’s Chuck, seemed genuine and was as passionate about his role as host just as last year’s Neil Patrick Harris was. The intro to the show was done quite well too, with even a nod to the fact that the audience was made up of developers from the various studios. The way in which Zach said, “this night is for you, for the developers,” gave me a slight tingle that this could be the year the show was redeemed. And yet… here we are… *sigh* And what’s worse is that between all the countless jokes, puns, trailers, and premieres, the award show aired only about 4 actual awards on stage. Talk about pathetic. So if you wanna know who won just hit the jump. — More after the break!

Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto retiring from current position, would like to focus on small projects

Jonny Ive at Apple was said by Steve Jobs to answer to no one but him. As a designer, his word say was the final say. But when it comes to Nintendo, Shigeru Miyamoto is their very own Ive — being responsible for one of, if the THE most recognizable video game character of all time, Mario. Not only that, but Miyamoto-san was also instrumental in the conception of Donkey Kong and The Legend of Zelda franchises, among many others. But it would seem that the father of Nintendo has decided to stay out of the lime light, and go back to helping on smaller games rather than the bigger titles, like Mario Galaxy and such. Though he worded it differently, using the word “retire”. — More after the break!

Windows 8 public beta hitting the streets in February

Windows 8 is a curious little bugger. It’s stuck in this middle-aged crisis where it’s not sure yet what it wants to be. It’s got the makings of the popular Windows Phone Metro theme, and yet when you select many of the apps they open up in what appears to be good ol’ Windows 7. While the new direction is refreshing, it’s a little saddening to see Microsoft taking it only half way… if even that. But if you’re curious to see what it’s all about and missed out on the developer’s beta, you can expect to get your hands on it in February. — More after the break!

Julian Assange: "iPhone, Blackberry, Gmail users are all 'screwed' -- (Video)

If you live in the year 2011 and believe that your internet, mobile, and social activity isn’t monitored on a 24/7 hour basis then my friend, I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Julian Assange paints the picture quite bluntly in this video where he explains that in a post-9/11 world, it’s more common than you think that spy software is being contracted out by local governments to monitor its citizens — even on their private devices.

Apple admits that 5.0.1 update hasn't fixed the battery problem for 4S owners

Since the release of the iPhone 4S, users of the latest Apple handset have been plagued by less-than-stellar battery life. Apple promptly addressed the issue and planned to rectify it with a software update that would patch whatever bugs were causing the battery’s juices to leak all over the digital floor, so to speak. Well, it just so happens that the recent 5.0.1 update — that went live a few days ago — not only did nothing to fix the battery problem, but it also made the issue more widespread to 4S owners who never even had battery difficulties to begin with. in the wake of this PR disaster, Apple wants to let you know they’re aware of it.— More after the break!
